Synergy Tips It is now Jan. 19 and half of all Americans who've made New Year's resolutions have fallen by the wayside. Now what? Regroup and rethink. What were you trying to accomplish and why? Bite off smaller pieces. Instead of setting an unrealistic goal of working out every day per week, start with something a little more doable such as every other day and then move up from their if your energy level and body allows. Regrets … I've had a few … Stop focusing on what you haven't done and look forward into the future to what you can do. The beauty of a resolution is that we can always start over! It doesn't cost a thing except a little pride. The buddy system. If you can coerce a loved one, friend, or coworker onto your resolution bandwagon it will ultimately be much harder to not show up to the gym, run those four miles, go to jazzercise, etc. If your buddy has gotten his or her butt in gear, he or she will expect you to be there as well. Payoff. In the seven years I've been running, there have been many times that I didn't want to go (too hot, too cold, too tired, too busy). But NEVER in those seven years have I regretted putting the rubber to the road and getting out there and pounding the pavement. EVERY single time I've hit the snooze button and gone back to sleep I have been the worse for it at the end of the day. DO IT-- walk that mile --put that DVD in. You won't regret it, I can guarantee you. Good luck and get moving. Dr. Linda Long
